I have not calculated the power drain on the 9V battery. This configuration may be too much for it to supply for more than an hour or so. When I get further along I’ll decide if another type of battery will fit the enclosure. For now the external 12V source regulated through the LM317 (set to 9V) should provide weeks of operation on a small gel cell.
THIS PROJECT IS STILL BEING CONSTRUCTED. It is my first attempt at homebrew and will be my first piece of HF equipment!
